Solihull kids have starring role on BBC’s Last Night of the Proms!

Filmed in a Dickens Heath back garden, in the summer holidays, twelve children from Solihull Pop Chorus Juniors responded to the BBC’s call for the nation to contribute to a medley of the song Do-Re-Mi as part of the Proms celebration of the 50th anniversary of The Sound of Music.

After a couple of quick practices, led by Choir Director Anya Small, who has played Maria on stage, the children sang their hearts out.

The film was uploaded to the BBC website and largely forgotten about until Saturday night’s live broadcast on BBC One when, after being introduced by Katie Derham, they appeared at the start, in the middle and at the end of the medley!

Theo Smith 7, in whose garden the filming took place, said: “It was really exciting to see ourselves on the TV. We had lots of phone calls and messages from friends who saw us on the programme. We’re famous now!”
